PoS rules day one of Quadrangular Games

The Port-of-Spain and Environs Education District yesterday wrote their names into the annals of track history when they won the Ministry of National Security revised and updated Quadrangular Games 2014, held at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Port-of- Spain, on Thursday.

Before the start of the day’s proceedings, students from the eight districts showed their timing in the march past. Members of the National Fire Fighting Services conducted a skit displaying their skills using ladders and water hoses to create an exciting performance which left the spectators wanting more. Chairman of the Games Vice Chief of Defence Staff—Brigadier General Anthony Phillips-Spencer greeted the large crowd before President of the Republic of T&T His Excellency Anthony Thomas Aquinas Carmona declared the Games open.

From the sound of the gun, Port-of-Spain and Environs began to shine and defeated the other seven districts on day one of the Quadrangular Games which featured Primary and Secondary schools. Port-of-Spain and Environs Primary Schools racked up a total of 152 points over eight events, winning six of the relay events while the Caroni and North East districts finished second and third respectively with 120 and 66 points.

The Port-of-Spain and Environs Secondary Schools had to pull out all the stops to repel the challenge of North East to win by two points. Port-of-Spain and Environs won 12 of the contested 24 events. Day two of the Quadrangular Games will begin today at 3 pm at the Hasely Crawford Stadium when the Youth Group and Club competes first, before the Defence Force and the Protective Services do battle for bragging rights after 36 years. Entrance to the Stadium is free.
